Arthur Corrigan becomes Leinster LGFA President at Convention
January 18, 2025
The 2025 Leinster LGFA Convention was held this afternoon in the Grand Hotel in Moate, Co. Westmeath.
Kildare’s Arthur Corrigan replaced LGFA President Elect Trina Murray as Leinster LGFA President with all other Leinster Executive positions remaining the same as 2024. In her final speech as President, Trina Murray thanked all those who had supported her during her term as Leinster President, from difficult beginnings in 2021 during the Covid-19 Pandemic through to highlights such as 2022 when Leinster counties captured all seven national adult titles at League and Championship levels.
She thanked the Leinster Executive members and our four staff members, Margaret, Deirdre, Emily and Leah, who have worked tirelessly to support and promote ladies football in the province. Trina thanked our counterparts in the GAA and Camogie as we continue to work together, to help the dual player and to work together as part of the GAA family. Trina asked the meeting to remember those who had lost loved ones and those we lost last year, Cathal Friel and Brendan Martin. She extended her deepest condolences to their families and loved ones and a moment’s silence was held for members of Emily’s family who had passed this last week.
Trina thanked all of those who officiate and volunteer across the provinces, while also reminding the players that they are pivotal in our Association, not only as tremendous athletes, but also as role models for the next generation. Trina finished her address by thanking those from her club, Moate Ladies, her county Westmeath and her family.
The officers of the Leinster Executive each delivered their reports, and they were adopted to the meeting with the officers thanked for their comprehensive reports on all aspects of the Association. Leinster LGFA Registrar, Pat Carr, reported that there were 82, 111 registrations in Leinster in 2024, a further increase on 2023 and almost a 100% increase since 2020. Pat reported there are now 389 clubs in Leinster, an increase of 21 on the year previous. Leinster GDO Leah Doyle delivered the Development Report on behalf of herself and Emily and Margaret Brennan delivered her Administrator’s report. Both Leah and Margaret were thanked most sincerely for their thorough reports and for their work throughout the year.
Trina presented new Leinster LGFA President, Arthur Corrigan with his Presidential medal and Arthur spoke about how he got involved with ladies football and acknowledged how far the Association has come in a short space of time. He thanked all of those who volunteer to help develop and support the Association, and looked forward to what he could bring to the role in his term as President.
Leinster LGFA would like to thank Trina for all her work as Leinster President and we wish her nothing but success as she becomes National President at Congress in March. Leinster LGFA thank all those who have volunteered and supported activities to encourage and develop ladies football this past year, and we look forward to another terrific year.
At today’s Leinster LGFA Convention, Leinster President, Arthur Corrigan was delighted to present five players with the Leinster LGFA Scholarship for €1000 for the upcoming season!
