A new look Minor Championship are among the changes as the request from counties at the December meeting means the 2019 Championship will now mirror the same structure as the u16 Championship with more games for participants. In Group A, last year’s finalists in the A Final, Dublin and Meath, will once again lock horns while All Ireland Minor B Champions, Kildare will face Offaly. In Group B, Wexford will face Westmeath while last year’s Minor C Champions Laois will face Longford. In Group C, Kilkenny will go to battle with Carlow while Wicklow will play Louth.
The opening round is set for the 16th/17th Feb, with round two Bank Holiday Monday, 18th March. Round three will be played on 13th/14th April. B and C semi finals are set for the end of April with the finals set for early May.
The TG4 Leinster Championships will start on the 1st/2nd June with the Intermediate Quarter Finals and the opening round of the Junior Championship. Reigning Leinster Intermediate Champions, Laois will face last year’s All Ireland finalists, Meath, in an enticing quarter-final clash. Laois defeated Wicklow in the 2018 Final, and the Garden County will look to get their Championship hopes underway when they face Offaly in their quarter-final clash. Kildare will go head to head with Longford in the final quarter-final clash. Lady luck shone on Wexford as they received a bye in the opening round.
The semi-final draws have also been made and a rematch of the 2018 Final is a possibility with the winners of Laois/Meath facing the winners of Wicklow/Offaly. Wexford's first outing in the semi-final will see them battle the winners of Longford or Kildare for a place in the final on June 30th.
Reigning champions, Louth will face Carlow and Kilkenny in a round robin with the top two counties facing each other in the Junior Final on June 30th. (*Please note date correction on JFC Round 2 Carlow v Louth)
Reigning Leinster and All Ireland Champions, Dublin will once again take on Westmeath in the SFC Final on June 30th. In Netwatch Cullen Park, a Niamh McEvoy inspired performance guided Dublin to their seventh successive Leinster SFC title against Westmeath in 2018 as they were victorious on a 5-11 to 2-08 scoreline (Read the match report here).
