Leinster Action: Weekend Ending 8th October
06/10/2017
An action packed weekend ahead in ladies football in Leinster. On Saturday – two vital games down for decision. After their respective County Championship victories last weekend, two clubs with a proud history in the Leinster Championship go to battle in Mountmellick GAA. Dublin Champions, Foxrock-Cabinteely will go to battle with five time Laois Senior Champions Sarsfields for a place in the Club Championship semi-finals where they will face the Meath Champions (either Boardsmill or Oldcastle) next weekend. Throw in there is at 2pm.
Meanwhile in Tinahely GAA, Tinahely’s Senior team will go to battle with Meath Champions, Dunboyne. Dunboyne are no strangers to the Leinster Championship having won the Leinster and All Ireland Junior Club Championship two years ago. Tinahely had a tight win over Moorefield in their opening round and this experience should serve them well as they face Dunboyne at 2. Home advantage could also be key here.
On Sunday, Rathcairn GFC is the venue for the meeting of Meath Junior Champions Clann na nGael and Carlow Champions Bennykerry Tinryland. Both sides were lucky to get byes in the opening round and will undoubtedly be ready for the challenge. Longford’s Dromard will be looking on with interest as they face the winners next weekend.
Also on Sunday, the second round of the Aisling McGing U21 Championship takes place. After their narrow loss last weekend, Kildare will be hoping to get back on track as they welcome Mayo to Hawkfield at 12 noon. In Group B, Meath will be hoping to build on their opening round victory as they host Tyrone at St. Peter’s Dunboyne at 1:30pm while Offaly will look to get back to winning ways as they travel to take on Longford at Clonguish also throwing in at 1:30pm.
Best wishes and safe travels to all this weekend!
